April is Food Waste Reduction Month!
The City of Asheville, in partnership with Buncombe County, has declared the month of April a time to focus on reducing the estimated 57,500 tons of food that is wasted annually here in Buncombe County.
This wasted food also wastes all of the land, water, and energy that it takes to grow, store, and transport it. What’s more, at the same time food is being landfilled here in Buncombe County, there were more than 35,600 food insecure individuals—including nearly 8,000 children—in Buncombe County alone, according to 2020 records.
