Repurpose and Compost
Working Group
The Repurpose and Compost Working Group is focused on reducing food waste going into landfills by supporting community food waste drop-offs, backyard composting, food waste repurposing initiatives and composting programs in schools. We aim to educate the community about composting and repurposing skills by providing various resources including home compost demonstration labs and information on our resources hub page.
Ongoing Effort
- Increase composting infrastructure in Western North Carolina
- Increase home composting knowledge and participation
- Support schools and stakeholders begin successful school composting programs
- Create strategies for the public to learn how to repurpose food
- Updating the resources page on our website
What We’re Working on Now
- Improving and adding educational compost labs in WNC
- Updating our resource page
- Offering workshops on compost and repurposing skills
Our Long-Term Goals
- Adding multiple community composting solutions throughout Western NC
- Educating all school-aged children about composting in Buncombe County and beyond
